As the Fry Foxes continue into September, we will be diving into many new topics in music. The kindergarten will continue to sing lots of new songs, and add some steady beat games to the music. The first grade will begin their percussion instrument study soon. They will get to experience so many new instruments, and play rhythms with them.
The second grade will be looking forward to a music program in November, so we will start learning songs and dances for it soon.
Music symbols and notation are on the horizon for the third graders. They will eventually have the goal of reading music by playing their recorders later this year. Fourth graders are already asking me "When do we get to play our recorders?!?!?" I have told them "Think winter..." and left it at that. They will not begin their recorder unit until the third graders are ready for their recorder time as well.
Finally the fifth graders are working on singing songs in canon and accompanying songs on the Orff instruments to create harmony.
This week begins the first meeting of the Orff Ensemble on Monday, September 13, at 7:50-8:50 am in the music room. They get to compose a song on the very first day they meet--should be a nice first challenge to get them started. The Fry Chorus will meet for the first time on Thursday, September 16th, 7:50 to 8:50 am in the multipurpose room. Can't wait to begin singing! There are over 100 kids in the chorus and looks to be a fabulous year for singing.
Calling all Boys! There is a great event coming up on Saturday the 25th. The Young Naperville Singers are hosting the annual Boys Power Sing. All 3rd, 4th and 5th grade boys are invited to join the event at Neuqua Vally High School from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. For more information, pick up a flyer in the music room.
I hope to have a wonderful week, and wish you all one as well!
Mrs. Whitney
